Carrier IQ: нас не подслушивают?
Дальнейшая археология обогатила винтиков и шпунтиков с xda (а вслед за ними и всю прогрессивную публику) официальной, девственно-чистой копией софта и учебно-методической литературой по применению, написанной отнюдь не с позиций уважения к частной жизни конечного пользователя. Найденное позволило умельцам параллельно разбирать поведение Carrier IQ на аппаратах HTC и Samsung, выяснив основные триггеры и соответствующие им записи в логах. В полный рост открылись богатейшие таланты софтины по наблюдению за ВСЕМ, упаковке собранного и отправке на соответствующий портал для просмотра и категоризации администратором. «Контора» писала что угодно — все нажатия клавиш, состояния всех звонков, местоположение телефона, набранные тексты, действия с приложениями, на веб-страницах... 

The Rootkit Of All Evil – CIQ
The kind of “metrics” or data that this app can collect. In the original version of the app, the app is set to collect things such as network status, equipment ID and manufacturer, and much more. All this data is then pushed to a “portal” where the administrator can see, filter, accommodate, and virtually arrange all the metrics reported by the app in any way he/she sees fit. What is more, according to some of the training documents, CIQ can virtually consider anything as a metric, and record it. For instance (great example by TrevE), lets say a network admin is recording data for people with dropped calls in California at 5 pm. Because of all the metrics that could be obtained via the different triggers, that same network admin will not just know that you got a dropped call at 5 pm in California, but he/she will also know where in California you were located, what you were doing with your phone at that given time, how many times you accessed your apps until that time, and even what you have typed in your device (no, this last one is not an exaggeration, this thing can act as a key logger as well). If this data collection means little to you, think about this:  If Google’s vision of Android@Home comes true, these companies will know when you eat, when you sleep, when your house is empty.  They will know when you buy food by your refrigerator temperature, when and how you cook that food, and when you wash the dishes.  They will know how long you spend in each room of your house, based on when you flip the light switch.  And so on.  That’s only the uses Google presented at Google I/O 2011.

First of all, I thank everyone who participated in testing of XDM3035!
Now to the news.
As I told before, I did not plan to work on XDM any more. But somehow, I managed to squeeze some time out of my schedule to make some notable updates. The upcoming update (I don't know if I will push the version number to 3036) will contain major bugfixes (mostly code and models) and one gameplay addition: "OVERDRIVE!!! mode". :)
Yeah, I was bored with ordinary HLDM and made crazy modifications to some weapons. For example, acid grenade now spits blobs of sticky green goo, tripmines shoot giant bolts (sometimes exploding) and other innocent funny things. One bad thing about this is increased network traffic. )
As for me I'm leaving for a short vacation (those bastards won't allow me to take normal amount of days!) so if you want something, wait or use jabber. Good luck everyone! :)

Помнится, занятие вардрайвингом за рубежом однажды спасло мне жизнь. Так что для себя я решил: вайфаю - быть! (Но не в моей квартире) :)

Идея с yagi/cantenna мне весьма по нраву, однако с MIMO и 5ГГц (802.11n) это не прокатит. Для этого нужны либо три антенны, либо, как некоторые говорят, специально сконструированные излучатели. Всё здорово, вот только делать это довольно трудоёмко и муторно. Вот что понадобится (в тории):

Проводки:
U.FL -> RP-SMA female (внутренний, от разъёма на Wi-Fi-контроллере к корпусу)
RP-SMA male -> N-male (внешний, от ноута к антенне)
Антены:
а вот ХЗ какие... есть мнение, что для 802.11n сгодятся просто 3-4 разнесённые антены под частоты 2.4-2.5 и 5ГГц. На практике проверить не могу.
